Giving local GP surgeries a stronger voice as the Alliance becomes a Community Interest Company

The Dorset General Practice Alliance has become a Community Interest Company marking an important step in its ongoing work to support general practice across the county.

The Alliance brings together local GP practices, Primary Care Networks (PCNs) and the wider general practice workforce for key decisions and discussions about local health services.

Since it started in 2022, the Alliance has helped people understand how GP surgeries work today. It has shared positive stories from local GP practices, including a short video that explains the different roles you might see at your surgery. You can watch the video below.

The Alliance also speaks up for general practice, supports staff wellbeing, brings GP practices together across Dorset, and helps create practical resources such as the Dorset Greener Practice Guide.

Dr Forbes Watson, Chair of the Dorset General Practice Alliance said,

“The Alliance is the collective voice of general practice across Dorset. Becoming a Community Interest Company strengthens our ability to support and advocate for general practice long-term, while our role and purpose remain unchanged.”

A Community Interest Company is a not-for-profit organisation. It exists to benefit the community it serves, rather than to make money for private profit.

The Alliance will continue to work closely with general practice teams, NHS partners and local organisations across Dorset.

Please contact the Alliance if you have any questions regarding these changes.
